God knows your thoughts before you do!

God, being all knowing and with prefect understanding of all things, “For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him” (Col. 1:16)(NIV). God (Jesus) created all things for Himself, even situations which are often referred to under the title of God’s providence. In short this refers to God not only supplying all things, but also Him arranging all things according to His plan for His glory. It has been previously mentioned that God in His sovereignty sanctifies His children using these situations, arranging events to build character. So, it has been made evident that God in His sovereignty puts all people in their places for His purpose.
Knowing each individual perfectly, their character, nature, ability and understanding, He places them where He desires them, with the purpose that they will fulfill His will/purpose. God knows what every individual will do in every situation, like for example what Pharaoh would do if he were given power. Proverbs 19 fine tones this for us: “Many plans are in a man’s mind, but it is the Lord’s purpose that will stand” (v. 21)(ESV). As a result of individuals doing what they will and desire within the limits and scenarios provided to them, God makes His self known displaying His attributes (Power, Grace, Holiness, Justice, Goodness, Love, Jealousy, etc.).
God’s Sovereign Power
God’s sovereign power can be seen in that He not only punished Pharaoh but also punished all the disobedient Egyptians associated with him. Some may wonder why was God not gracious to them? Why God did not send His Son to save them, for they were just as disobedient as we once were (Eph. 2:3). All one can say from scripture is it was not in the plan of God to save the Egyptians (Rom. 11:26).
“For this time I will send all my plagues on you yourself, and on your servants and your people, so that you may know that there is none like me in all the earth. Or by now I could have put out my hand and struck you and your people with pestilence, and you would have been cut off from the earth” (Exod. 9:14-15 ESV).
God sent plagues on the Egyptians for their disobedience, wickedness and unbelief. Let us not forget that God said He raise Pharaoh to power. Egypt at that time was a prosperous nation for, “all the earth came to Egypt to Joseph to buy grain, because the famine was severe over all the earth…” (Gen. 41:57)(ESV). Who made the Egyptians prosperous (Jam. 1:17)? Are blessings a good thing? God’s power was demonstrated on these people on both sides, for He raised them to power blessing them and He brings them down. We are told this in the book of Daniel “He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding;” (2:21)(ESV). Therefore it is clear that whatever authority or power Pharaoh had was from the Sovereign hand of God.
To the refuter or one who may attempt to negate this clear teaching in scripture Apostle Paul explains to clarify what he is say: “For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I might show my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” So then he has mercy on whomever he wills, and he hardens whomever he wills” (Rom. 9:17-18)(ESV).
Again God’s sovereignty does not diminish human responsibility for Pharaoh disobeyed God willfully. God sovereignly chooses how each person will serve His purpose, however human responsibility is not annulled for men chose to sin rather than repent.
God knows perfectly what one would do and why they would do it down to the most minuscule detail, in fact in verses 6 and 7 of Luke 12 Jesus tells His own not to be afraid, in which comforts them by saying that nothing is forgotten by God and the very hairs on the heads are numbered: “And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows” (ESV)… This extraordinary detail should remove all fear that God does not know or the He is not concerned.
Comforting
This topic is not intended to scare but rather to give comfort, for if you belong to God He has promised to never leave us or forsake us (Deut. 31:6, Heb. 13:5). Let us take heart and remember that,
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” (Isa. 55:8-9)(ESV).
